So many great things that I have learned from this semester, to learn about the social media and how it have influences us in positive and negative ways. We live in a digital age that we face identity theft, cyber-bullying or sharing too much information that can be a problem when we don’t secure ourselves from those people. I have learned the side effects of pornography addiction that it may be hard to overcome and it can be dangerous some people might be a murdered if they view hard core pornography. I have also learned that technology helps us makes life easier and we can learn through social media about education for example TED Talks. I have learned also how I can teach my children in the future about social media and be able to build trust and have an open relationship so the child can feel free to share their feelings. One of the assignments was to join a new social media platforms and I choose Instagram. My experience with this social media has been great and I have learned a lot from it. Not all information out there are reliable we need to use our critical thinking to learn what is accurate or not.

I learn that we can be slacktivist that we raise awareness through social media and be able to help those are in need. One of the greatest thing I’ve learned and grateful for is that social media provides us a way that we can share the gospel. There are pros and cons using social media and that we have to be aware of these things. I have learned a lot of things through  a short semester,  I even learn how to do blog in this class and it’s my first time and I know even join Twitter account so that I can learn more and interact with other people. After taking these classes I have learn a lot that I then always think twice what I post in each social media and do it influences other in a good way. I learn more from our discussion from our psychology social media class and nice to learn from others point of view about social media. This class I would recommend my friends to take.

Interesting things I learn in class today about how important it is to be aware of what we post and share on Social Media especially Facebook. Just last week most of my friends shared an article about a famous Tongan Rugby star (Korad Hurrell) in NZ filming a selfies sex video with a famous NZ actress (Teuila Bakely). The article mention that the guy was driving and he film themselves having sex in the car while he was driving. The video was to send to his friend as Snapchat but however, the article states that they don’t know who upload it to Instagram and the video had been shared around before it was deleted. I found this interesting because what I learn about Snapchat it does not replay what others send you it automatically deletes it. I know that he regrets this because he post a apologize video to all the Tongans. But I learn that once things are on the internet will be there forever like tattoos.

Posting daily activities of their lives on Facebook I found it really annoying when people do it often. Sharing too much information about them may not be the best way of social networking. YouTube video that goes viral are shared based on our interest and videos are either hilarious or emotional. For a video to go viral must have many followers to share the video and if the video is epic! There will be more shares. Social media are useful in ways for job interview and are we comfortable sharing things that we want people to know about ourselves? I share uplifting quotes and funny videos but I will never imagine myself posting everything about me my wall. To tie back to our lecture before is that we are what we share and post, I mostly use Facebook every day. Social media is the most influence way to advertise on commercial products to consumer. We carry our device around and we constantly spend time on social media sharing post. Social media impacts us in a positive and negative ways, but it makes life easier.

When I started my Facebook account most of my friends had bebo and Myspace accounts, I had Facebook so I can keep in contact with my relatives in the US but after a few months later Facebook became popular in Tonga. Today hardly anyone have bebo or myspace accounts most joined Facebook. Social media is a powerful tool to share and connect with friends and relatives but most importantly to inform us with news. I always get news and what is happening in back in my hometown through social media before I hear from a friend or phone call. Social Media for me is the fastest way that I know what is happening in the world.  I think slativisim is a good way to inform people online and also to raise awareness for example I saw my Newsfeed on Facebook last week my friends shared the article “#Bringbackmygirls” this is a picture that the first lady hold with this sign, this picture became viral and I think the power of social media can reached out to people and be aware with the situations and help to find where was the girls being kidnap.

When I share something on Facebook it’s about something I liked or I found interesting. I think when things goes viral is based on our emotion and interest and to passes along to our friends.  But sometime liking and sharing does not always help for example, I saw one article about a baby suffered from cancer but I see many likes and share with this article and I think liking and sharing in this situation does not help.  Social media is the number one most visited sites and it have influences us daily. I feel that sometime we help because we know something that was post in the social media and it’s a good thing like the “Batkid” from Bay Area he suffered from leukemia and through social media ask for supporters thousands of people showed up to support. Social media has great influences in us.

We have all different addiction, for some may be drugs, alcohol, and smoking, playing games or pornography addiction. But I think the one thing that mostly everyone is addicted to it is using the internet. Spending time online through social media platforms is a great way to interact with families and friends that lives far distance. In this digital age we are caught up interacting with others through our devices instead of actually meeting and talking to them. One of President Uchtdorf quotes says, “If life and its rushed pace and many stresses have made it difficult for you to feel like rejoicing, then perhaps now is a good time to refocus on what matters most.”  I like using social media but sometime I spend too much time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

From President Uchtdorf quote I learn to focus on what matters the most, when we prioritize our time on what matters most we improve ourselves. We talk about in class how videos or picture can go viral and I thought that whatever we put out there in the internet we should be mindful. I get the latest news from fb rather than watching the FOX News, I think that social media information travels a very fast speed. The influence of social media has impact us both negative and positive. Too much information can be misleading, today’s technology anyone can become a publisher through the web. It is important to use critical thinking when we read an article online. One of the negative uses of the internet is viewing pornography sites, this addiction can lead to child abuse, adultery and divorce it shatters lives as it promotes devastating relationships in families. We need to be aware and take caution because we cannot stop pornography but we can stop ourselves by avoiding things that can destroy us mentally, physically and emotionally.

Social Media platforms have replaced traditional social media of how people interact with each other. New challenges arise when we spend most of our times on the internet interacting with other people instead of real people. My psychology professor challenges us to use a social media that we have not used before. I choose to use Instagram because I see it as a trend now that my friends post things on Instagram and via them through Facebook or twitter. I was not interested at first to create an Instagram account because I thought it will be like Facebook. I later learn that Instagram are only for photos with a caption under it, so we don’t post status on Instagram only pictures. After creating my Instagram account last week I am hooked with using Instagram. I follow my friends and its fun to look at their pictures and their funny captions. Also I can see more of what my friends are doing in Instagram. Then I later join Snapchat and twitter for the first time.

These social media helps us to engage more and interact with people and its fun! A lot has changed even in a second, which we need to be aware we become dependent on technology. I depend on my phone a lot for dictionary, people I talk to and also navigation. I could not imagine a life without technology. Through Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram is a fun way to communicate with my families and friends. Social media has provided a way to stay connected to those relatives or friends far distances. I enjoy using social media is because my friends post funny video and pictures of themselves doing crazy stuff like jumping off a cliff. There are a lot of other ways out there in social media that people use to stay connected to their friends and share stories about their day.

There is a lot of information these days that are available for us to access but do we ever think twice if the information we get is accurate? Whenever I do not understand or know anything I quickly search it on the internet.  Almost 96% I would believe the information that I find in the web is true. So I am always happy to know what I found but I never thought if it’s the accurate information. I learn in my psychology social media class that there are too much information that not all are correct information. We need to use critical thinking to analyze the article that we are reading and question why the author thinks this way. I always assume that whatever information available is in the internet are accurate.  But after class today I learn a lot from the discussion in my psychology social media class.

Internet has grown so rapidly overtime and we communicate through social media platforms this is the fastest way information is spread. Today anyone can be a publisher in the internet were compare to traditional social media it was few people that publish things. Because of this opportunity that we get to publish people change information that what is expected in reality. For example, on Facebook that the airplane that was crashed in Malaysia was found and it shows picture of people getting the people out, but in reality the plane was never found. People can do anything with information by Photoshop picture and make it believable. I learn that I need to use critical thinking when I read an article and always trace the source where did the publisher get it from.  I think that too much information can manipulate people because anyone can turn a false idea to become accurate or factual. To assess how much we rely on information, we need to do a self-inspection and debate whether information we find is reliable. From printing world to electronic assess we are to be more aware of ourselves and know the source that we find.

In my psychology social media class we are to learn about social media and engage in using media that we are not familiar with. Our world goes through a lot of changes as time goes on. Changes in technology can make a brighter future for individuals. Because of advances in technology, this world is becoming more efficient and saving us money in the long-run with fuel, electricity, communication, etc. The social lifestyle of an individual involves technology in some way. In class we watched how telephone being develop overtime and the changes it made and also to computer. The telephone was invented to use in local communication to now global communication. Through these advances in life our life becomes simpler and that we connect with long distance people easily. Thanks to the inventor of telephone that over generation we go through digital experience and make a person’s lives easier.

The evolution of telephone changing in a fast pace. The changes will continue to occur in the futures. In today society almost everyone owns a smartphone or phone, and I love using my smartphone because I m able to communicate loves ones. These changes are is like the speed of light and will to continue to occur in the future. Imagine a life without these technology the way people might engages in through traditional social forms like letters.
